What is Brott Opera?

BROTT OPERA is a two (2) week paid opera program dedicated to offering highly talented emerging opera singers the opportunity and experience of performing with a full symphony orchestra. As part of the annual Brott Music Festival, this 4th edition of the program, based in Hamilton Ontario, will offer:

  • Paid Stipend.
  • Accommodations.
  • Performance opportunities with full symphony orchestra.
  • Coaching and training experience from some of today’s top industry professionals.

Who Qualifies?

Brott Opera is open to quality singers of any age ready to take on roles and perform them with full symphony orchestra. Maestro Boris Brott, one of Canada’s most decorated conductors, has a strong passion and experience of working with singers. Don’t miss this chance…..apply now!

The program will offer a production of Mozart’s THE MAGIC FLUTE (in German), as well as POPOPERA, an opera excerpts concert, both with full symphony accompaniment. Selected singers will perform in both concerts. All singers should be of the highest professional standard when they arrive with their assigned role and repertoire memorized. Double accommodations will be provided and singers will be remunerated as follows:

Lodging

Double occupancy shared apartment accommodations (private bedroom) will be provided by BrottOpera at no charge. Free internet and free local calling are included.

Meals & Travel

Meals & travel are your own responsibility and at your own expense.

Application

EVERYONE IS GUARANTEED AN AUDITION (audition notices will be assigned on a first come first serve basis)

  • Application deadline is Nov 30, 2017
  • Pay application fee $65 (non-refundable)
  • Include your resume (max. 2 pages), be sure to include the names and contact information of at least 2 references from industry professionals (voice teacher, coach, conductor, etc.)
  • Include a copy of your headshot.
  • Audition notices will be emailed to you no later than one week after your application is received

Auditions

Everyone is guaranteed a live audition. A pianist will be provided at the audition however you may bring your own. Media submissions will be considered instead of live auditions. Online sound or video clips are preferable (YouTube or on your website).

Requested Audition Repertoire:

  1. Mozart aria (from the character you are auditioning for)
  2. Italian aria
  3. A contrasting aria
