The Programs

The first program of the 30th Anniversary of the Brott Music Festival will include Glick’s Triumph of the Spirit and Mozart’s Requiem with full orchestra and soloists. Rehearsals will be in a retreat format beginning Thursday evening, June 22, with morning and afternoon rehearsals each day followed by evening workshops and the performance on June 29. The chorus for this program will consist of 75 choristers and 8 paid section leads. All singers will need to know their parts before the start of rehearsals so that time is spent primarily on phrasing, musicality, etc.

The second program will be a production of Bizet’s Carmen (in French) with full symphonic accompaniment. This chorus will consist of 16 paid choristers of the highest professional standard who will also be assigned an understudy role. All parts must be memorized upon arrival.

The final program will be a full performance of Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony No. 2. This will also be a 75 voice chorus with 8 paid section leads. This will be a retreat format (described above) beginning Thursday evening, August 10, 2017 with the performance on August 17, 2017.

Travel, Lodging, Meals and Concert Attire

Each participant, including paid positions, is responsible for their own expenses. Hotel group rates and other lodging options are being explored as well as airline rates. Light refreshments will be offered each evening; however, all other meals are the participant’s responsibility. Each participant is also responsible for their own concert attire, formal gowns for women and black tuxedo and black bowtie for men.

Excursions

There will be a morning or afternoon during the retreat schedule to explore some of the area’s art, sport, history, architecture, or nature attractions. Since the retreat format involves just one week and ends on a Thursday, participants may also wish to schedule additional opportunities to visit the 8th natural wonder of the world, Niagara Falls, any of the nearly 100 award-winning world class vineyards, or even the tallest freestanding structure in the Western hemisphere, the CN Tower in Toronto.
