The Programs

June 21st Performance
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the Brott Music Festival presents Glick’s Triumph of the Spirit and Mozart’s Requiem with full orchestra and soloists. Community Chorus rehearsals begin June 3rd on selected weeknights and weekends, and the choral retreat begins June 17 with two rehearsals and one workshop daily. All singers must know their notes and words before the start of rehearsals. Ensemble time will focus on phrasing, musicality, etc.

July 13th Performance
A production of Bizet’s Carmen will be performed in French with full orchestral accompaniment. 16 selected choristers of the highest professional standard will also be assigned an understudy role. All parts must be memorized upon arrival.

August 17th Performance
This program features selections from Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Orff’s Carmina Burana. The community chorus rehearsals begin July 29 on selected weeknights and weekends. The choral retreat begins August 12 with two rehearsals and one workshop daily. All singers must know their notes and words before the start of rehearsals.

Stipends

Brott Opera Chorus (Carmen) – $250 (subject to change based on funding)

Festival Chorus Section Leads (Glick/Mozart or Choral Extravaganza) – $1,200 each (subject to change based on funding)

Choral Retreat Fees

One concert – $250
Two concerts – $425

Travel, Lodging, Meals and Concert Attire

Each participant, including paid positions, is responsible for their expenses. Hotel group rates and other lodging options are being explored as well as airline rates. Light refreshments will be offered each evening; however, all other meals are the participant’s responsibility. Participants are responsible for their concert attire, all black attire for both women and men.

 

Excursions

There will be a morning or afternoon during the retreat schedule to explore some of the area’s art, sport, history, architecture, or nature attractions. Choral Retreat participants may wish to schedule additional opportunities to visit the 8th natural wonder of the world, Niagara Falls, any of the nearly 100 award-winning world class vineyards, or even the tallest freestanding structure in the Western hemisphere, the CN Tower in Toronto. All of these attractions are easily within one-hour travel time from Hamilton.

Deadlines are:

  • April 7, 2017 for the Brott Opera on July 13, 2017
  • April 28, 2017 for the Festival Chorus Performance on June 21, 2017
  • May 12, 2017 for the Choral Spectacular on August 17, 2017

Everyone is guaranteed an audition (audition notices will be assigned on a first come first serve basis)

  1. Fill out the online application
  2. Pay application fee $25 (non-refundable)
  3. Include your resume (max. 2 pages), be sure to include the names and contact information of at least two (2) references from industry professionals (voice teacher, coach, conductor, etc).
  4. Include a copy of your headshot.

Audition notices will be emailed to you no later than one week after your application is received.

Both live and recorded auditions will be considered; however, we strongly encourage live auditions in Hamilton, Ontario. Any online sound or video clips are preferable, should you not have any online, mail your CD to 301 Bay St. South, Hamilton, Ontario L8P3J7. CD’s must be received by the application deadline.
